Lausanne – Alpiq has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in Finland with Merkkikallio Wind Oy, a wind power production company owned by Renewable Power Capital (RPC). This agreement is a further step in the expansion of Alpiq’s European energy trading activities in the Nordics and strengthens the company’s market position.
Alpiq will off-take power from RPC’s Merkkikallio wind farm with a long-term PPA, enabling additional renewable power production into the Finnish power system. The wind farm is located near the city of Vaasa, in the Finnish Southern Ostrobothnian region, and consists of 15 wind turbines having the rated power of 82.5 MW. With this PPA, both Alpiq and RPC increase the stability of their business plans and reduce market risks. Alpiq is supporting the transition to CO2-free power production in the Nordics.
“The agreement is a milestone towards further strengthening Alpiq’s market position in the Nordics. We are very pleased that RPC trusts our market expertise and has entered into a long-term cooperation with us. Smooth cooperation with RPC throughout the process gives a solid basis for the further business opportunities”, says Matti Ahtosalo, Alpiq Head Origination Nordics.
